Regional Profile

Map of Bolivia

Market Overview

One of the least developed countries in South America, Bolivia relies greatly on the exploration of its natural resources, which include minerals, agricultural products and natural gas. The country is the third largest gas producer in the region and its reserves are estimated at 9.9 trillion cubic feet. Bolivia is a key supplier of gas to its neighbours Argentina and Brazil.

The Bolivian government strives to attract foreign capital to boost its gas production, which has diminished in view of decreasing output from its fields and little investment. In the power generation sector, which was privatised in 1994, the main sources used in the country are hydro and thermal power plants.
